I am about to purchase a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 1100cc. It needs a new solenoid, and they sell them on eBay. Can I use a different solenoid (same bike different year [1983]), like say a solenoid from a 1982 Yamahamaxim Maxim XJ650? Or do I have to buy the exact solenoid for this bike?
should be about the same - call a reliable bike shop or you may even be able to look it up on an online auto parts place that maximsells parts and says if compatible
I'd get the same thing...
if you mean the starter solenoid, you can go a year or two ahead or behind but i would not go much further.
